Chief Legal Officer

As Chief Legal Officer of Empire Trust, Eric wears many hats and resolves the broadest range of issues facing Empire Trust’s families. He identifies original opportunities for Empire Trust’s families by investing time to understand each family’s near-term and long-term goals and desires regarding such family and such family’s business. Among his several leadership roles, Eric is Empire Trust’s chief legal counsel, chief estate planning and wealth management advisor and leads all family service efforts.

Prior to joining Empire Trust, he was an attorney at Hurley, Toevs, Styles, Hamblin & Panter, P.A., where he focused specifically on estate planning, asset protection, and trust administration. He is a certified specialist in Estate Planning, Trusts and Probate Law by the New Mexico Board of Legal Specialization. Eric has a master in laws in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, a juris doctorate from the University of New Mexico, a master of business administration from the University of New Mexico and a bachelor of science from Indiana University, with a concentration in business management. Eric is also a member of the American Bar Association, Nevada Bar Association, New Mexico Bar Association, New Mexico Estate Planning Council and New Mexico Bankers Association’s trust committee.

Eric is married with two children and enjoys all types of outdoor activities including boating, skiing, fishing, and camping.
